Hello Sunshine is dedicated to female authorship across all storytelling platforms, including film, television, books, social videos, and audio. The media company is founded by Academy and Emmy Award-winning actress, producer, and entrepreneur Reese Witherspoon.

We’re excited to connect women (and men) to narratives told from a distinctively female perspective. We want the growing Hello Sunshine community of creators and audience members to feel seen and heard. Whether our audience identifies with a character from our book pick or with the heroine (or villain) from our TV shows, or strikes up a conversation sparked by our videos, Hello Sunshine’s mission is to show women as the flawed and often complicated heroes of their own stories. Hello Sunshine – the story starts with you.

  • Just finished reading it! One of the most beautiful books I've read! Left me with same feeling as The Great Alone, by Kristan Hannah.

Just finished reading the book today. I cant wait for the movie adaptation.

  • I hope that if and when the movie is made from this book …who ever makes it , they stay true to the book and not turn it into crap ! I have read so many awesomely great books and then watched a movie supposedly about the book and was choped into pieces and put together so very bad! wrong

  • I didn't want this book to end also. Love every character, the storytelling, the pace, and the vivid description of nature.

Kya is such a compelling character, needing to be both innocent and alluring, skiddish and confident, so I’ve been racking my brain about who could possibly play her… this is made especially difficult because of the very specific willowy and dark-eyed physical beauty required for casting, and that the story follows the character from young child to adult – but I finally figured it out!
Dafne Keen would be phenomenal as Kya as a young girl, and Lily Collins as her adult self. Although Lily Collins is already in her 30s, she has such a youthful face so could still play teenage Kya convincingly. Second choice would be Mackenzie Foy, who though very young (18 years old I believe?) has a face that could convincingly be the adult, courtroom Kya.
